All About Ms. Jaylin Brown

“All the sweetness of Spring. An aficionado of affectionate sounds; Ms. Jaylin Brown will have you set you adrift on memory bliss.

I was introduced to Ms. Jaylin Brown’s music by a dear friend from Richmond who, like me, is a patron of sound. I was struck by the soft subletty of her songs. How she effortlessly weaves her vocals with the notes that cascade from her guitar.  She is both blissful and deep; and with her warm nature she invites listeners to witness as she dives into the peaceful and vulnerable moments of her life through song.

Hailing from a family of 5 all of whom are immersed in aspects of music paired with the fact that she is classically trained (BA, Fine Arts, Virginia Commonwealth), Ms. Jaylin Brown brings you closer to the sweetness of life. Ms. Brown graduated in 2020 from VCU; where, for her final assignment, she wrote a critique on Classical Music texts and their homogeneous focus on the works of White male composers.  In her thesis she pointed to the way that such texts limit what students are taught about the Classical form, and how Black and Brown artists, when presented in the texts, are most often monolithic and tokenized.

Citing her inspirations in music as Lianne La Havas, Maxwell, D'angelo, and Missy Elliott; Ms. Jaylin Brown has found her sweet spot resides in intimate locations and spaces such as a live show in a private home or a parkside serenade at a spring festival.  She exudes warmth, and her vocals, like La Havas, are steeped in the art of nostalgic nuance; her lyrics grounded in love, introspection, and authenticity. None too surprising for someone who touts their favorite Sade album as Lovers Rock.

Her sweetness is representative of her family oriented upbringing where she is cherished as a friend, sibling, and lover of her shared community.  By workday she is busy pushing for and supporting positive public health outcomes in Richmonds beloved communities of color. With each day she lives as the fullest, most authentic version of herself and through her music she invites listeners to cozy up and enjoy a soft, elegant performance of sound.

You can find her music on SoundCloud, Spotify, Apple Music and other major streaming sites.”
